Ophthalmologist On The Go!

I had the recent pleasure of interviewing Ophthalmologist, Jennifer Logan, M.D, who writes our monthly column "Ask Doctor Logan" in which she answers 50 Plus readers questions about eye health care.

The first question I posed to Doctor Logan was where she grew up…
I have lived in Upstate New York near Saratoga Springs until relocating to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2010. The Rocky Mountains, active life style and the warm-hearted community drew me here.

We then talked about Doctor Logan’s educational background which I found to be quite impressive. She attended college at American University in Washington, D.C.; medical school at NYU in New York. Doctor Logan went on to say her internship was at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY and her ophthalmology residency was at NYU Medical Center in NY.

I inquired why Doctor Logan chose ophthalmology. She responded with "Looking into a patients" eyes can often reveal clues of medical problems that patients may be unaware of. As an Ophthalmologist I can intervene with early treatment of medical conditions and help preserve patients eyesight.

On the drive to visit with Dr. Logan, I had anticipated asking her how she came up with the concept of a Traveling Ophthalmologist. When asked she responded with, "It occurred to me that patients who are less mobile are challenged by traveling to the doctor’s office.
